SEL (Social Emotional Learning) Day at SBA!

Celebrating SEL Day at SBA 💚

SBA proudly celebrated Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Day with a sea of green and a strong spirit of kindness! Students and staff wore green to show their support for wellness, empathy, and positive connections within our school community.

Throughout the day, students participated in engaging activities focused on promoting kindness, practicing gratitude, building self-awareness, and strengthening healthy relationships. Classrooms were filled with meaningful conversations, collaborative projects, and moments of reflection that highlighted the importance of caring for both ourselves and others.

SEL Day was a wonderful reminder that at SBA, we are committed not only to academic excellence, but also to nurturing compassionate, confident, and resilient learners. 💚

Councilwoman DeCicco visits SBA for Read Across America Spirit Week!

We were honored to welcome Councilwoman DeCicco to our school as she celebrated Read Across America by reading aloud to our 4th grade students. She shared an engaging story that sparked thoughtful discussion and plenty of smiles throughout the classroom.

Her visit highlighted the importance of literacy and community involvement, and our students truly enjoyed the opportunity to connect with a local leader in such a meaningful way. We are grateful to Councilwoman DeCicco for taking the time to inspire our young readers and support a lifelong love of reading.

Integrating Science and Social Studies Through Writing in Ms. Russo’s Class

In Ms. Russo’s classroom, students combined their knowledge of science, social studies, and writing to design innovative, energy-efficient communities. As part of this interdisciplinary project, students explored concepts such as renewable and nonrenewable resources, conservation, environmental impact, community planning, and responsible citizenship.

Using what they learned, students thoughtfully designed their own sustainable communities, incorporating features such as solar panels, wind turbines, green spaces, water conservation systems, and energy-efficient buildings. They considered how their communities would meet the needs of residents while protecting natural resources for the future.

Students then detailed their ideas through informative and explanatory writing. They clearly described the features of their communities, explained how their designs conserved energy, and supported their choices with scientific reasoning and social responsibility concepts. This engaging project allowed students to apply real-world learning while strengthening their writing skills and critical thinking abilities.

Through this meaningful integration of subjects, Ms. Russo’s students demonstrated creativity, collaboration, and a deep understanding of how thoughtful planning can positively impact the world around them.

Student Council Elections at SBA

The SBA community recently came together to celebrate the Student Council Elections, a highlight of student leadership in action. Each candidate worked diligently to prepare thoughtful speeches, sharing their vision for how they would strengthen and support the school community.

What made this year’s elections especially inspiring was the way every student wove the SBA motto—“Building the Next Generation of Leaders”—into their message. From fostering school spirit to encouraging inclusivity and service, their words reflected a deep commitment to leadership and community values.

We are proud of all the students who stepped forward, demonstrated courage, and modeled what it means to be leaders in action at SBA.

Super Soak the Staff at SBA!

Super Soak Your Teacher – Back-to-School Fun at SBA!

To kick off the new school year with a splash, SBA hosted a Super Soak Your Teacher event! Students had the chance to drench their teachers with water balloons, creating plenty of laughs and unforgettable memories. The event brought together our school community in a lighthearted and fun way, celebrating the excitement of being back at school. It was the perfect mix of joy, energy, and school spirit to start the year right!

Hands-On Science: Forces at Work

In Ms. Russo’s 4th-grade science class, students worked in small teams to design and build chain reactions that showed how forces act on objects. Using everyday materials, they planned sequences where one motion triggered the next—perfect for exploring cause and effect. Along the way, students tested ideas, revised their designs, and practiced collaboration and problem-solving. Ask your child which part of their chain reaction was the hardest to get just right—and why!

SBA Ice Cream Social

A huge thank you to our incredible PTO for sponsoring and organizing this year’s Ice Cream Social! Students enjoyed a sweet treat and, even better, the chance to meet new friends and reconnect with familiar faces. Events like this truly bring our school community together in such a fun and meaningful way.

We also want to recognize and thank our dedicated teachers and staff who joined in the celebration. Your presence made the event extra special for our students.

What a wonderful way to kick off the year with smiles, laughter, and, of course, ice cream! 🍦✨
